TPO-49 - Integrated Writing Task
Both the reading and the listening discuss humpback whale uses stars for navigation to migrate far distances for searching food and mating. The reading supports the idea that humpback whale is highly possible to navigate by the stars for following three reasons while the professor agrees with the aspect that humpback whale uses stars to find a direction but the examples mentioned in the reading is pure imagination.
The reading firstly claims that humpback whales' intelligent is enough to understand stars to navigate. However, the listening elucidates that whale's high cognitive ability cannot determine whole intelligent, and she gives an example of some birds that use stars to navigate. The birds have only natural instinct but intelligent.
Furthermore, the passage mentions that straight lines that humpback whales use to. humpback whales migrate in open-ocean that have not orientations such as external object or forces but stars. Nevertheless, the listening says that humpback whales use bio-magnetite which connects to the magnetic field and help to find directions rather than start when they travel in the open ocean.
The last point of the reading mentions spy-hopping. Meanwhile, the professor mentions another ocean creature, shark, also does spy-hopping for hunting and most of the whales do spy-hopping in the day time when nothing stars show up.
