The graph illustrates information about different age groups of attendees at hospital emergency care departments in Northern Ireland in December 2016 and December 2017.
Overall, it is immediately clear that the number of attendees at hospital emergency care departments increased moderately over the period. In addition, people aged 75 and over were always the highest number in both years, whereas the opposite was true for the group of children under 15.
Looking at the bar chart in detail, in December 2016, senior citizens sent to hospital emergency care departments were the largest, at around over 60 per 1000 population, which was followed by that of children under 5, a difference of 10. The figures for attendees who ranged from teenagers over 15 to old people under 75 were quite similar, at about 30 per 1000 population. Children under 15 had the lowest figure in this year.
One year later, the same order of these age groups of attendees was witnessed. Specifically, the figures for the elderly over 75 and children under 5 grew slightly by 5 per 1000 population. Finally, the numbers of the remaining age groups of attendees experienced a similar rise of approximately 2 per 1000 population.
