The charts show how tourism to two countries changed over a 50-year period.
The four pie charts provide an overview of tourism variation in Australia and Germany in the year 1960 and 2010.
It can be seen that the majority of Australian and Germany citizens chose European countries as tourist destinations throughout the surveyed period. However, in 2010, Asia became the primary choice of Australian people in terms of travelling.
In 1960, both countries recorded a similar situation with respect to the proportion of tourists visiting Asian destinations, with 10% each. Meanwhile, over half of the Australian travellers decided to visit Europe, at 53%, which was well over twice as high as that for any other destinations. Interestingly, after 50 years, the proportion of Australian people coming to Asia saw a considerable increase of 53% to 63%.
With regard to German tourism, the percentage of tourists coming to the US as well as European countries varied slightly over the following period. Britain received fewer tourists from Germany in 2010, falling by 14% to 6%. By contrast, German tourism had seen a growing tendency in the proportion of people travelling to Asia, with a dramatic rise of 15% to 25% over the period shown.
