News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news? Would be better if more good news was reported?
Thinking on what should be put into television and newspaper really drives news editors crazy. Both good news, like someone who is given a praise, or sad news, like criticism or exploration of dark side of industry, also include different effect to us. I believe that we should keep a balance between them.
When deciding what information should be broadcasted on TV and published in newspaper, audience is always a key criterion. A report conducted by a university recently shows that elderly loves reading newspaper for consuming their times, while kids and teenagers whose age from 3 to 17, like watching TV. It is easy for editor to broadcast more cartoons on TV, but more informative and detailed articles and news in newspaper.
Doubtless, good news brings happy atmosphere to people. For example, if here is a news which reveals the recent scientists who received award from Queen in United Kingdom in order to give sure for their convention, we may appreciate their effort made. However, people should have responsibility to know everything in detail. On the other hand, it is unreasonable that one wants to know his parents status which is undermined in a tragedy but not allowed.
Yet, bad news shows problems and lacks in daily, which may let us be sad and hopeless, it may influence the mood of people to become sad and disappointed to everything. If this feeling continues, we may loss motivation to make things better.
Thus, to conclude, it will not be the best either mention something in good side or bad side. A balance between both two aspects is more appropriate for neutral reporting media, no matter news or TV.
