TPO-49 - Integrated Writing Task
The lecture and the reading both discuss humpback whales which migrate long distances. While the reading states some reasons that show the humpback whales have the ability to manage these long distances, the lecture refutes each of the author's reason.
First of all, the reading claims humpback whales have a complex brain and well-developed cognitive ability which makes these whales intelligent in order to use stars to manage these long distances. However, the lecture argues that this evidence is not convincing because there are other animals that use the star to navigate but are not very intelligent. Furthermore, the professor says birds such as duck which use stars to find a way but they are not more intelligent.
In addition, the reading makes the arguments that humpback whales maintain movement in a straight line, for example, birds use this method to navigate. The lecture counters this point by stating birds use the earth magnitude filed to navigate, According to the professor, birds use the bio magnitude to sense the earth magnitude field to find the route.
Ultimately, the reading passage argues that humpback whales looking upward to see the star in order to get information to navigate this behavior called spy-hopping. The lecture refutes this claim by pointing out that sharks also have a similar behavior they look up to hunt animals. Moreover, the professor says sharks do not looking upward to see stars in order to navigate this long distances.
