The given chart compares the percentage of people who lived in accommodation as owners and tenants in two counties (England and Wales) from 1918 to 2011.
As can be seen from the chart, the percentage of people in rented houses much more than personal ownership of houses from from 1918 to 2011. In 1918, more than 20 percent of people in England and Wales lived in their own houses whereas the percentage of the families as tenants was average 80 percent. Over the years, differences them decreased and coming to 1961, 40 percent of families lived in their own houses and 60 percent of family was considered as tenants.
In 1971, the percentage of people in owned accommodation and rented one showed equal number. The following decades, the number of the people who lived in personal belongings was much more than people in rented houses. They showed 60 and 40 percent in 1981, about 30 and 70 percent in 1991, 2001, 2011 respectively.
In conclusion, from 1918 to 1961 more British and Welsh people lived as tenants. On the other hand, there was equal number of them, as well as, for the next years the people who lived in their properties dominated compared to tenants.
