The chart illustrates the disparity in the percentage in average of house prices in the cities of five different countries from 1990 to 2002 compared with that in 1989. In general, the average house prices in five cities experienced an upward trend especially in london where the average house prices rocketed through years.
Between 1990 and 1995, the average house prices in madrid and Frankfurt rose slightly by around one and two percent respectively while in contrast, the average house prices in new york declined by five percent and those in london and tokyo decreased by about seven percent of each.
However, during the next six years period, the house prices in new york doubled when the price in madrid quadrupled. There was also a rise in the house prices in tokyo but it not as trivial as the one in london which had an increase by fifteen percent at the same time.
