Marriages and divorces
The first bar chart shows changes the number of marriages and divorces in the USA in 1970 and 2000. The second bar chart shows the percentage of marital status of adults in Americans between 1970 and 2000.
it is clear that there was a fall in the number of marriages in the USA from 1970 to 2000. The majority of adult Americans were married in both years, but the proportion of single adults was higher in 2000.
In 1970, the number of marriages and divorces were 2.5 millions and 1 millions respectively. The marriage rate remained stable in 1980, however. it dropped down to 2 millions in 2000. On the other hand, the divorce rate peak in 1980, nearly 1.5 millions, before falling back to 1 millions at the end of period
The married figure had reached to 70% in 1970 and fell by 10% in 2000. By contrast, the percentage figure of single adult rose to 20% in 2000, which is much higher than 1970. The proportion of widowed americans was slightly lower in 2000.
