The graph below shows the daily average minimum and maximum
levels of air pollutants in four big cities in 2000.
The bar graph shows the lowest and highest levels of Sulphur dioxide (SO2) and Dinitrous Oxide (N20), two air pollutants, in four cities, Los Angeles, Beijing, Calcutta and Mexico in 2000. Overall, the average presence of these two air pollutants substances is much higher in Mexico than the other three cities.
As presented in the graph, the levels of Sulphur Dioxide in the air of Los Angeles ranges from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 10, which is remarkably lower than in any other city. The level of this air pollutant ranges from 80 to 200 in Mexico which is the highest rate registered in 2000. Moreover, Beijing's SO2's levels are the second-lowest among all, with a minimum of 25, but the second-highest with a maximum of 130. Calcutta's levels, on the other hand, do not show a significant difference between their maximum and minimum, ranging from 47 to 59.
However, the levels of Dinitrous Oxide depict a different scenario, with Beijing being the less polluted city of all four. Japan's capital's levels of n20 range from 14 to 54, which is similar but lower than Calcutta's levels (30 to 52). Los Angeles places as the second city with the highest levels of this air pollutant. Its share goes from a minimum of 39 to a maximum of 104, that is approximately half that of Mexico. In fact, the upper level of n20 in Mexico is 207, with a minimum of 113.
In summary, the highest presence of Sulphur Dioxide and Dinitrous Oxide in Mexico reveal that air pollution in this city is far worse than the other three.
