Both the author and the lecturer discuss whether fossil of Tyrannosaurus rex contain residue of the actual tissues of the animal or not. The passage claims that T. rex fossil has remains of blood vessels, red blood cells, and collagen matrix. The professor, on the other hand, completely rejects whatever mentioned in the reading through citing three reasons.

First, both the author and the professor talk about the existence of blood vessels. According to the passage, the dinosaur's leg bone has small branching channels which is related to the hollow in the bones where blood vessels were located. The lecturer, nevertheless, rejects the author's view and illustrate the idea that soft substances in hollows represent the presence of organic materials that have remained from some animal that colonized there.

Second of all, both the reading and the lecture discuss the presence of red blood cells. The author argues that the dinosaur's bone contains spheres that shows the remains of red blood cells. However, the professor refutes this, saying that the spheres have a very different origin. For example they are probably just pieces of reddish mineral.

Eventually, the passage and the lecture address the subject of collagen matrix presence in the dinosaur's leg bone. The passage goes on to mention that the dinosaur's fossil contained collagen that a main component of living bone tissue. In contrast, the professor points out that the earliest collagen discovery returns to 100000 years ago. Finding collagen related to animals that lived 70 million years ago confused scholars about how long collagen can exist, so the presence of collagen can be as a result of researchers handing when they collected the fossils.

All in all, the author maintains that T. rex fossils constitute actual tissue of the animal, while the professor not only completely cast doubt on it, but he also demonstrates that these evidences such as branching channels, spheres, and collagen cannot proof the presence of actual tissues in the dinosaur's fossils.
