working four days a week
Both the lecture and the reasing are about working four days a week instead of five days. The author of the reading feels that implementing such a policy has social impact alongside economical beneficious. the lecture challenges the claims made by the author. he is of the opinion that such an approach not only have beneficion but also will harm both the economy notions and indivisual incentive for working.
To begin with, the author argues by working less would result in less errors in a production line since workers might have more time to rest an relax, and companies will increase their margin in this manner. this specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. he claims that providing enough workers to fulfill the required forces, companies would need to hire more labor so more budget is needed to provide training and health benefites for additional employees. hiring more force labor also means more space is needed and all these extra efforts are costly for companies.
secondly, the author suggest, the unemplyment rate would decreas. it is said that the twoenty percent less working means twoenty percent working hours vacancies and an uportunity for those who dont have a job; however, the lecturer rebuts this by mentioning that companies might not accept new forces because of the reasons mentioned before so there will be no more employment and as a result the unemployment rate would not change.
finally the author posits that those who are not married would have more times to spend time with their familly. in contrast the lecturer's position is that the policy would cause risk. the workers might not have jobs tability because in times of economical collapses these are the first to get fired. on the other hand, they would have less merit in their job since companies prefere to select those who are more available. thus, they are less likley to recieve a promotion. Never are they likely to receive a promotion.
