Cane toad population growth discussion
Both reading passage and lecturer discussing about possible way to eliminate cane toad population growth because of its harmful effect on native animals. Reading passage provided three method to remove the population of the harmful animal. However, lecturer think than even the reading passage mentioned possible way to decrease population growth of cane toad, those method are not successful enough. Further, lecturer stated her opinion in each method why it is not the best way.
First of all, the reading passage stated the one way to prevent the spread of the toad would be building a fence. So that, it will work as barrier by preventing population spread to another country. But, in this situation, lecturer further explain that even the barrier build in some area the eggs will carried by water way to another place. She concluded that fence is not effective way to stop population growth.
Secondly, passage raised another way to decrease its growth by receiving help from volunteer. Because cane toads are possible to caught by bare hands. Even thought, it counted as ineffective way as a lecturer for the reason of its body size and distinguishing character. She believes that untrained volunteer might destroy native frogs because the appearance of baby cane toad and frogs are hard to distinguish.
Lastly, disease causing virus for cane toad that developed by researchers is one of three method controlling the population that stated in reading passage. It considered effective way in passage because the virus is specially designed for cane toad and would not harm other species. Be that as it may, lecturer explain that this method will endanger the ecosystem and due to implementing this method whole eco-system would suffer.
In sum, every implementation to control cane toad's population grown that stated in reading passage is considered as ineffective way to lecturer.
