the graph below shows electricity production (in terawatt hours) in France between 1980 and 2012
The graph illustrates how much electricity was produced by nuclear, hydroelectric, thermal and renewables in France, measuared by terawatt hours over a period of 32 years starting from 1980.
It can be clearly seen that while the amount of electricity produced by nuclear and renewables increased, the opposite was true for hydroelectric and thermal. It is also notable that nuclear was the highest for most of the period.
In the period 1980 – 2005, witnessed a remarkable development in the mount of electricity produced by nuclear and reached a peak of over 450 terawatt hours before declining gradually to roughly 430 terawatt hours in 2012. Meanwhile, electricity was not produced by renewables from 1980 to 2005 but later went up steadily by 25 terawatt hours in 2012.
In 1980, the figure for electricity produced by thermal stood at 125 terawatt hours, in comparison with 70 terawatt hours of hydroelectric. The next fixe years, there was a significant reduction in the figure for electricity produced by thermal, followed by a stability of 50 terawatt hours between 1985 and 2012. By contrast, the figure for hydroelictric experienced a slight fluctuation around 60 terawatt hours in the period 1980-2005, hitting the lowest point of 50 terawatt hours, and then remained stable over the following 7 years.
