table

The table gives an overall view about how many hectares of land in different areas were forest between the years 1990 and 2005.

It is noticeable from the table that there were no significant changes about forested land in all six areas, with Europe remaining at the top forest builder and Oceania had the least figures.

In more details, there were 989 million hectares of forest in Europe in 1990. This number then experienced a sustained growth, reaching a record high at 1001 million hectares in 2005. In contrast, South America, although came second, had a small drop from a start of 946 million hectares to 882 million hectares. Meanwhile, Africa's number, although was higher than North America at first, but declined gradually and even had a lower end with only 691 million hectares.

Of the rest two areas, while Asia used 576 million hectares for forest, Oceania's number was even smaller, with a mere 199 million hectares at the beginning. And these two areas almost remained their figures constant in the 15-year period.
