wood companies do not like ecological certifications for three reasons:
1, people do not distinguish their advertisements
2, they are more expensive than regular woods
3, this business is not competitive
The article claims that wood firms in the United States cannot adopt their products to the eco-frindly criteria even though other organizations and industries are benefiting from its related certifications, and the author provides three main rationalizations to support hthis idea. Conversely, the professor completely opposes the reading's hypotheses as he claims that all of them are not necessarily positive. In the following, the elaborations of the lecturer will be discussed thoroughly.
First of all, the reading states that the native customers of USA are used to watching diverse advertisements; therefore, they usually do not care to the certified eco-woods. On the other hand, the professor disputes this opinion insomuch as he believes that these consumers never treat all advertisements teh same; moreover they have the ability to distinguish between a typical product and an eco-friendly one. Furthermore, they refer to the independent consumer agencies' notes and suggestions who may also have international reputation.
Secondly, the passage upholds that people are not attracted to eco-woods since these wooden tools are more expensive than regular ones. In contrast, the lecturer asserts that this explanation is just true when two elements are only compared through the lens of their prices due to the researchers' findings, but this presumption is rejected when the difference between the prices are not relatively noticable. Owing to the prices of these state-of-the-art woods are merely 5% higher that normal woods, individuals will accept them; besides they are eager to use them inasmuch as they presume that this action will protect their environment.
Third, the reading claims that this innovation in wood industry is not profitable for companies. Nonetheless, the professor rejects this idea as a result of the fact that he thinks if native companies do not act thoughtfully and fast, foreign companies will defeat them in the competition of atracting new domestic consumers. Therefore, the government must support these eco-freindly certifications.
