The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The table illustrates the percentages of expenditure that consumers spend on three types of products and services in several nations in the year 2002.
It can be seen clearly from the table, while food/drinks/tobacco was the most popular in Turkey and Ireland, consumers in Italy mainly gave preference to clothing and footwear. The leisure/education category had the lowest percentages in the table.
In Turkey, the figure for food/drinks/tobacco was at the highest position, at 32,14%, which doubled than that in Sweden and Italy. However, the first rank belonged to Italia with 9% of people buying clothing/footwear. In terms of leisure/education, the proportions in all countries were less than 5%.
The percentages of national consumer expenditure in Sweden were the lowest (15,77% for food/drinks/tobacco and 5,4% for clothing/footwear). At the same time, consumers in Spain only spent 1.98% on leisure/education, which was approximately 1% less than other countries.
