Reason for migration to / from the UK - 2007
The two pie charts illustrate the proportion of migrants and immigrants according to different purposes in Britain, in 2007.
Overall, it can be seen that, in both cases the most preferable reason for coming to the UK was to start working in previously defined job, with 30% of the total, while nearly a quarter of foreigners changed their living places for study. The share of people who accompanied their friends or relatives came third, at 15%, as compared to 12% for those who was seeking for a new job, which was only one percentage point higher than that for immigrants with other reasons. The share of traveler who stated no reason came last and was precisely two times lower than that who were looking for work.
When it comes to proportion of emigrants, here again definite job took the lead with representing 29% of the whole, whereas the relevant figure for those who were interested in new work was slightly lower, at 22%, followed by 18% for citizens who gave no reason. The shares for “other” and “accompany/job” categories were nearly the same, at 14% and 13% respectively. Finally, only 4% of natives left the country for studying abroad, in 2007.
