The table gives information about the percentage of people from six household types living below the poverty line in Australia in the year 1999.
Overall, the percentage of sole parents and single with no children were the highest groups, whilst the percentage of age couples and single age people were the lowest groups of poor families. The remaining two categories had an average percentage compared to the highest and lowest family groups.
It is noticeable that 11% of all households in Australians were living in poverty in 1999. The elderly people were the least likely in poverty. The percentage of at 6% and 4 % for single aged people and aged couples respectively.
On the other hand, one out of every five sole parent households was classes as poor that rate was nearly twice higher than of couples with children. In comparison, the poverty rates of single with no children had lower values at 7% that figure was only one third than the percentage of couples with no children at 21%.
