The line chart illustrates how much fruit bought per year by a big chain supermarket such as apples, oranges, pears, and bananas in India. Units are measured in million tonnes.
Overall, amongst the four categories purchased that increased, oranges stayed relatively stable throughout the year.
The majority of fruit being bought annually was on apples which accounted for 70million tonnes from 1988 and continued to rose significantly its figure to just above 90million tonnes in 2016. While pears made it to the bottom with a recorded data of approximately 5million tonnes, however, it slowly moving up and reached a peak just above a fifth million tonnes.
Meanwhile, bananas and oranges both had its figure from around 40million tonnes in the beginning. After 4 years, bananas suddenly rose to nearly 60million tonnes whereas oranges declined to 22million tonnes with fluctuations year on year and stayed the same in 2016, while the former fruit marked on the second rank with a supported data just above 90million tonnes in the end year.
