Summarize the main points in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific theories discussed in the reading passage.
According to the reading passage, the reason for the rapid decline of sea otters near Aaskan coast is due to the environmental pollution and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor suggests that the predation hypothesis is more convincing and refutes each of the author’s points by providing the reasons.
First of all, the professor argues that no one can really find any dead sea otters near the Alaskan coast which means that otter have been eaten by predators thats why otters population is rapidly declined. This contradicts the reading which claims that oil rigs and industrial chemicals created pollution in the water and otters couldn't resist infectious diseases due to this pollution and died.
Second, the professor contends that Orcas like to eat big whales and these whales disappear near the Alaskan coast because of human hunting. Now, Orcas started eating small mammals like seals and sea lions. That's why other smaller sea animals have also disappeared in that area not because of pollution as reading claimed.
Finally, the professor states that because of their bigger size Orcas cannot reach to the shallow and rocky location and in those areas sea otters population is not declined and other easily reachable areas have rapid decline of sea otters. This opposes the reading which claims that uneven pattern of sea otters decline in different Alaskan location is because some areas are more polluted than the others.
