Summarize the information in reading and the lecture.
The reading and the lecture are both about behavior and lifestyle of Agnostids as a group of marine animals that became extinct. The author of the reading feels that there are a few theories that can explain their food type and their way of life. The lecturer, however, challenges the claims made by the author. She believes that those theories are faulty.
First of all, the author suggests that agnostids were free swimmer predators that hunted smallers animals. In addition, the reading states that there are other type of primitive arthropods that are very strong swimmers and because these animals are realted, it is possible that agnostids were a strong swimmer too. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this specific argument. She asserts that primitive arthropods have big and strong eyes and vision is very essential or being a predator while the agnostids have poor and tiny eyes and sometimes they are completely blind. So if they werea predator, they should have other sensors for locating the prey while there is no evidence of these sensors.
Furthermore, the writer says that agnostids live on the sea floor. Also, the reading says that other type of primitive arthropods lived in this way, therefore it is possible that agnotids live in this way. Nonetheless, the lecturer rebuts this theory. She posits that this theory cannot be true because animals that live on the sea floor cannot move very fast or go far distances and tend to live locally and move very slow. She brings up the information that however agnostids are found in a specific geological area, but most of agnostids aslo are found in the different area and this discovery has proven that these animals were able to move very fast and far distnces.
Finally, the author claims that agnostids were parasites that live and feed on the bigger animals. In the reading it is stated that modern-day arthropods are parasire, so it seems that agnotids were parasites too. Whereas the lecturer points out that this theory is wrong beause parasites have small population. Great population of parasites can kill the host. She argues that the population of agnotids are very high and the huge number of their fossils have been found.
