Given is the line graph comparing four nations, namely the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal, in terms of the average amount of carbon dioxide that each person emitted over the 1967-2007 period.
Throughout the period, a British person released by far the largest amount of carbon dioxide of all time. While the UK and Sweden saw a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, the figures for Italy and Portugal followed the opposite pattern.
In 1979, a UK resident was responsible for a tremendous quantity of carbon dioxide, particularly about 11 metric tonnes. This amount was followed by Sweden with 9 metric tons per person. In the following years, a decline in gas emission was seen for both nations, but a Swedish person suddenly released far less carbon dioxide than a British one after a peak at above 10 metric tons. Despite a steady drop in the gas amount, the British still discharged the highest carbon dioxide quantity, ending at about 9 metric tons per person, over twofold the figure for Sweden.
By contrast, the average carbon dioxide amount from Italy and Portugal was considerably lower than the UK and Sweden in 1967, at approximately 4 and 1 metric tons respectively. However, the gas amount per person in Italy increased so dramatically that its figure exceeded Sweden from 1987, and ending with a twofold amount compared to the initial year. Similarly, the emissions from each Portuguese person rocketed to the same amount as Sweden in the end.
