The chart shows the proportion of holidaymakers of one region staying in different types of accommodation in different years.
The pie charts provide the percentage of holidaymakers from one particular area who used 4 different types of accommodation during the period of 40 years, beginning in 1965.
In overall, it is clear that while private house was the most popular type of recreational housing in 1965, hotel dominated the highest percentage in 2005. Moreover, while caravans and hotels experienced a remarkable growth during the whole period, the opposite trend was witnessed in the remaining types of facilities.
According to the chart, 55% of travellers chose friends’ houses as their holiday accommodation in 1965, dominating the first place in the ranking. However, the next 40-year-period experienced a significant decline by 25% in this section, accounting for only 30% in the final year. In contrast, starting with only 16% in the initial year, the figure for hotel then increased to a highest number at the end of the period, at 37% in 1985 and 38% in 2005.
The trend was totally different when it came to the other types of accommodation. While the percentage of visitors staying in caravans saw a significant increase by 20% during the whole 40 years, camping accounted for only 12% in the end after witnessing a slight decline by 3%.
