The diagram below shows the number of marriages in the UK between 1951 and 2001. The data given is for all marriages, remarriages (any partner) and first marriages. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph illustrates how many marriages were there in the UK from 1951 to 2001. Besides, these data are about both all marriages, remarriages and first marriages.
A cursory at the diagram is enough to make it clear that over the given period, the number of first marriages and all marriages had parallel trends.
According to the diagram, there were nearly 100 thousand remarriages in 1951. After this year, it slightly decreased in 1961 then increased minimally to over 100 thousand in 1981. After that period, this figure declined again in 2001 which was almost the same as the figure in 1951.
As the diagram suggests, in 1951, there were roughly 350 first marriages. Moreover, the next 330 years witnessed a marginal climb to more than 400 thousand in this number. However, after 1981, this figure went down gradually to closely 300 thousand in 2001.
In addition, the number of all marriages experienced the same trend as the figure of first marriages. Firstly, it stood at 450 thousand in 1951. Following this year, it hit the peak at approximately 550 thousand in 1981. Afterwards, it saw a steady reduction by about 100 thousand in 2001.
Overall, it is obvious that over the period given, the number of remarriages stayed the same. Meanwhile, the figure for first marriages went down significantly.
