The best leaders are those who encourage feedback from the people whom they lead.
The topic raises the issue of whether the best leaders are those who encourage feedback from the people whom they lead. I generally agree that the team members' opinion important for the growth of the leaders and also the whole team.
First of all, immediate feedback is necessary for anyone who would like to improve themselves. In the book Grit, the author has mentioned that deliberate practice is essential to make a mark. Within deliberate practice, it requires immediate feedback to help amend the directions. For good leaders, the people whom they lead are one of the resouces they can seek advice for.
Furthermore, one could argue that people who are led are not able to have the overall picture to provide the suitable feedback. However, leaders make decisions that affect all members and the future. Thus, it is vital to percept things through the holistic view. Team members, although can only see a part of the situation, could provide valuable insights that a leader are hardly able to observe.
Last but not least, when leading a team, it is said that the outcome can differ a lot whether the members work for the leader or for money. And encouraging the feedback from the members could make them feel important and influential to the team. Thus could serve as the incentive to make the team better.
In conclusion, although it may be hard to for leaders to accept different opinions from the people whom they lead, it is essential for the leaders and the whole team.
