The diagrams below present the estimates and projections of world population from the US Census Bureau
A glance at the diagrams reveals the estimated figures and anticipated changes of world demographics from the US Census Bureau over the period 1950 to 2050. Overall, global population is likely to continue to climb remarkably during the given course, although the rate at which the population grows will decline.
As can be seen from the first chart, in the first decade, population growth was flat at around 3 billions, prior to risising to 4 billions in 1970 and remaining constant until 1980. Since then, the growth accelerated, peaking at approximately 8 billions in 2020. From the rest of the given period, it is projected that the planet will accomodate at least 9 billion citizens.
According to the second chart, worldwide demographics growth rate went up from 1.5 percent in 1950 to about 2 percent in 1980 despite some significant fluctuations. After that, the figure maintained at that level during the next 10 years, followed by a crash to just over 1 percent before stabilizing for the following decade. From 2010 onwards, this pattern is anticipated to plummet gradually to a mere 1 percent at the end of the period.
