The pie charts below give information about the composition of household rubbish in the United Kingdom in two different years.
The pie charts illustrate of what components the litter in the UK consisted of in 1985 and how the proportion was changed in 2002.
Overall, the household garbage consisted primarily of paper (36%) and kitchen waste (44%) in both 1985 and 2002, correspondingly. Meanwhile, textiles held the last place for both years, with 3% and 2% for each.
As for other leading components, in 1985, organic waste held the second place after paper with 28%, followed with large gap by metals and wood (8% for both). Glass and plastic were the next ingredients, each of them consisted 7% of household garbage. Dust and cinders had one of the least percentages in the compound, the figure achieved 5%.
Regarding 2002 year, miscellaneous was the next leader after kitchen waste, with 17% of all rubbish. Paper slightly less than the prior ingredient took the third place, having 16%. The next material, that was frequently thrown away by households, was paper, taking 7%. The other two rubbish components were wood (6%) and metals (4%).
