Should governments spend more money on improving roads and highways, or should governments spend more money on improving public transportation (buses, trains, subways)? Why? Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.
In this statement given, the author compares value of public transportation and private transportation. Every kind of transportation is important for cities but public has much more value. In crowded cities, transportation is an important social problem such as avoiding from accident and air pollution. I shall explain in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, nowadays every family has one or two cars. Roads and highways are really crowded. In my opinion, governments should encourage the citizens to use public transportation; on the other hand, new and extensive roads encourage people to buy one more car. Of course government should spend money to improve roads for preventing accident but they should spend much more money for buses, trains and subways. They should not only build new railroads but also buy new and big trains. If they can provide comfortable trips for citizens from home to work or from home to downtown, citizens choose public transportation instead of private transportation.
Secondly, much more vehicle on roads means much more pollution in air. Every vehicle releases carbon dioxide to air. Governments can impede or reduce the carbon dioxide emission. How they can? If electrical trains are used in public transportation, therefore, private cars which were preferred by citizens will reduce on roads. Much more citizen will prefer public transportation.
Thirdly, accident will be prevented when number of car are reduced. Roads will be quite so drivers can drive easily on free roads. If roads are quite, government doesn’t need to build new road and maintaining will be cheaper than before.
All in all, if a city has a big and wide range transportation network, citizens don’t need to drive their own cars so roads don’t need to maintain any more than before. Governments will save their money so they can easily spend money to upgrade public transportation.
