advantages and disadvantages of genetically modified trees
The reading and the lecture are both about booming industry of genetically modified trees. Accordingly, the author provides three outstanding benefits of these trees which promise better characteristic through changed organisms’ genes. On the other hand, the professor is not convinced of the theories and cast doubt on each of the claims. The lecturer is of the opinion that such trees are not as great as is mentioned in the reading and cause various problems.
To begin with, the writer argues that natural trees consist of differential species which each of them can endure different harvests; so, their survival is ensured. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. In contrary, artificially modified trees can only tolerate distinguished threatens that the trees are designed to be resistant against, such as climate changes and insects. Therefore, since unified trees persistent to certain dangers are planted in a place whenever, for instance, climate changes all these trees will be demise and wiped out.
Secondly, the writer disputes that genetically modified trees bring about economic benefits for the farmers. To delineate, genetically corrected trees have tendency to grow faster and provides more fruits and wood which lead to faster farming investment return. In contrast, the lecturer opposed this notion by asserting that planting these trees have hidden costs for the company selling them, seeds and so on. He elaborates on this by bringing up the point that peasants must pay the company an amount of money each time that they plant these expensive seeds.
Finally, the author averts that genetically modified trees avoid extremely cutting of the wild trees for industry and housing industry as they grow faster and are able to totally satisfy the demand. In contrast the lecturer stance is that modified trees grow aggressively among wild trees. Hence, the professor puts forth to the idea that local trees are not capable of competing for resources and water because these trees grow much ore faster that them.
