This table provides information on the proportion of the population aged 65 years and over in 3 countries (Canada, Germany and the UK) for the years 1988, 2000, and the estimated percentages in 2030.
Overall, the number of elderly people (is projected to) increases in all three countries over this time period. In addition, the highest proportion of elderly people, in Germany, will continue to remain at the highest level in 2030, while this rate is lowest in the Uk at all times.
Between 1988 and 2000, the aging populations of Canada and Germany increased by about 5% to 20.67% and 25.32%, respectively. On the other hand, the UK showed relatively little change in the proportion of the population aged 65 and over and remained below 15% in these two years.
By 2030, it is expected that the population aged 65 and over in all three countries will increase by about 5.5%. This rate is predicted to reach 30.42% in Germany, 26.35% in Canada and 20.35% in the UK.
