The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.
The line graph illustrates a comparison of daily travellers in the UK using three different modes of transport from 1970 to 2030.
Overall, it is apparent that the number of people transporting by the car and train shows an upward trend over the period, whereas a reverse pattern can be observed in the figure for the bus.
In 1970, the car was the most popular mean of transport, with around 5 million users per day. The number of commuters travelling by bus was slightly lower, at approximately 4 million people a day. The train, however, is accounted for carrying only under 3 million guests daily.
Over a period of 60 years, the number of car users has witnessed a significant increase; therefore, it is projected to peak at 9 million people every day in 2030. Meanwhile, the bus figure has declined gradually to only 3 million uses each day as the prediction. Besides that, after remaining at 3 million passengers daily in the 2000-2010 period, the number of train commuters is also expected to rise to nearly 5 million people on a daily basis
