The bar chart below shows the passenger kilometres traveled by different means of transport in the UK in 1990 and 2000. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The chart illustrates the distance the UK travelling by 5 various types of transport in a 2-year period.
It is noticeable that while the figures for bicycle and motorcycle users kilometres followed a downward trend, the opposite was true for the number of kilometres in total. Also, the distance of UK habitants going by bus was always the highest over the period shown.
In 1990, the UK travelled 100 billion kilometres and then went up to around 150 billion kilometres in the year 2020. Meanwhile, the numbers of bus and rail passenger kilometres were about 43 and 40 billion respectively. Over the following year, the figures for those followed a similar pattern, rising to 50 billion kilometres each.
Turning to the other categories, initiating at 3 billion, the distance UK people travelled by air showed a gentle increase of 2 billion kilometres over the next year. In contrast, the numbers of motorbike and bicycle user kilometres in the UK were the same in 2019, at approximately 4000 thousand each. At the end of the period, the quantity of those both marginally decreased by 1000 thousand kilometres at the end of the period.
