Chevening is looking for individuals who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answer.
(minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)

Leadership is about service; leading myself and others towards common goals. Leadership must begin within me before I can lead others. Being a leader has been my passion in life and I have lived by this intrinsic standard. In the capacity of being a leader, one tends to interact and have an influence on people he/she is leading. I have been influential in my academics and my leadership skills are evident in the examples below.

In high school, I was the class representative from junior secondary school two (2) to senior secondary school one (1) at Montclair college. The weight of being a class rep is what is generally known, I kept the class in order and ready for conducive learning by calling the subject the teacher at the appropriate time, making sure teaching materials were ready (such as white board makers) and submitting assignments at when due. Although it was a tough task to get the stubborn students do it but as a leader I was empathetic and report to the teacher when needed and also organise quizzes which helped in building one another.

During my undergraduate studies (2019) I served as a group leader for an assignment in Entrepreneurship in Biology on Biotech seeds in my final year. I led 5 other class fellows, the challenge was bringing together individuals in the group as some were functional and some were not. Realising this as a leader I was able to lead them, making them know the benefit of contributing to the work as it would help in each person's grade and not only mine. Although for me, doing voluntary work is the way I contribute to works and hence I dedicated extra time after lecture hours to ensure that a great work was done.

Furthermore, I was also the academic director of Biological sciences department 2019/2020 session. Leading the whole department, organising tutorials, searching for past questions for each level was not easy. I decided to photocopy the past questions, bind them together (for each level) so as to make it accessible to everyone without stress and this has been helping the department till now. Thus, this awarded me a leadership award at the end of the session.

Lastly, at the course of my youth service (2021) at Nigerian breweries, I led the SIWES ( Student industrial work experience scheme) students that we worked together by imputing some data. This was challenging because the students sees me as a new graduate and not a staff. After noticing this, I corrected them in a student - student way since I was once like them and reported them when necessary to the laboratory supervisor or other superior staffs. The data were up-to-date, closing gaps of uncompleted ones due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am confident and believe that Chevening scholarship will further enhance my leadership skills to greater heights upon returning home - helping poor children feed and get quality education as I look forward to transitioning into a global leader.
