The chart below shows the changes that took place in three different areas of crime in Newport city center from 2003-2012.
The line chart presents the changes in levels in three different areas of crime namely burglary, car theft, and robbery in the center of Newport between 2003 and 2012. Overall, burglary was witnessed a downward trend in the rate of crime while robbery and car theft remained the same number despite some fluctuations.
Starting at nearly 3500 incidents of burglary, this figure increased to reach a peak at around 3700 in 2004 before experiencing a plunge to just 1300 incidents in 2008. In the next 4 years, this rate recovered and increased to nearly 1500 incidents. Having remained stable for 2 years at 2700, the rate of car theft suffered a significant decline to 2000 incidents in 2006. After, this rate fell gradually until to register the same number with the beginning.
In terms of robbery, the highest number of incidents are reached in 2005, at nearly 800. The cases of robbery went down to the lowest point in the next 3 years, at 500 incidents followed by a slight improvement to around 600 incidents in the end.
