The graph illustrates the rate of unemployment in Australia during the year 2012 in four quarters.
Overall, there was a decline in number in rural areas whereas a reverse trend has been observed in the urban areas in the aforementioned period.
In rural areas, there was a steady fall in unemployment during the first 2 quarters from about 6.5% to 4.5% followed by a rise of up to about 5.5% in the third quarter and fell to nearly 5% by fourth quarter.
However, in urban areas an opposite trend has been observed. The percentage surged from slightly more than 2% to 4% towards the end of the first quarter. After which the proportions fluctuated until the fourth quarter, with a major dip to nearly 2% and a small dip from 4% to 3.5% at the end of second and third quarters, respectively. In the fourth quarter, the rate continued in an upward trend to around 4%.
