Overall, the global sales of handheld games was the highest during the research period. Additionally, the amount of almost all types of games sold experienced an upward trend except from console games over a 7-year period.
The quantity of handheld games consumption witnessed a moderate growth from a roughly 11 billion dollars turnover in 2000 to $18 billion in 2006. In contrast, the equivalent figure for console games registered a slight decline of around 3 billion dollars to 3 billion dollars in 2006.
The mobile phone games just appeared in the market in 2002 but gradually increased and got over the online games and console games to become the second most popular digital games in 2005 of 6 billion dollars for global sales. However, the similar figure for online games saw a consistent jump from 2005 to 2006 and reached a peak of 9 billion dollars turnover in 2006.
