The three pictures below show different kinds of bridges.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The given diagram presents three forms of bridges with their distinct features.
Overall, the three bridge types are different from one another, with specialized height and width. It is also recognizable that each kind can be built in a certain water body and accommodate a specific mode of water transportation.
As regard the first type – the arch bridge – it has a semi-circular shape at the bottom and is possible to be erected in small places, such as lakes. It has a width of up to 200 meters and a height of no more than 100 meters, thus allowing only small-sized boats to travel underneath.
In terms of the second bridge design (the concrete girder bridge), it is easily seen that the construction consists of two parts: the piers and concrete pad. Each pier is no more 300 meters high; they are firmly placed at the bottom of the river with the space up to 200 meters between them. The width of this bridge can be freely prolonged according to the pier number. The bridge surface is made of concrete, making vehicles travel easily. Because of the big size, it can provide enough space for medium ships to travel below.
The third bridge construction, the suspension bridge, is the most colossal among the three. This type of bridge is suitably built in places having strong water flows and deep bottoms, such as seas. It includes huge piers, long cables and vertical suspenders. The piers are tower-shaped and 400-2000 meters apart from each other. The cables are freely horizontally stretched and connected to the vertical suspenders. The bridge surface can admit a large amount of transportation, and the whole bridge can have sufficient space for large vessels.
