Overall, there were dramatic differences in the shares of heating, refrigeration, lighting, and other appliances, while the similarities were seen in the figure for cooling and water heating. In addition, the percentages of water heating and cooling in using energy and releasing gas relatively being highest and lowest.
Heating required the highest percent of energy, the figures for refrigeration, lighting, and other appliances were lower, at 42%, 7%, 4%, and 15% respectively. Their figure in releasing gas emissions saw significant differences. While lighting accounted for 8% of gas emissions, refrigeration brought about 14% of emissions. The figure for other appliances far exceeded that of heating, with the respective percentages being 28% and 15%
Water heating accounted for 30% of energy to be used, as opposed to cooling using 2% of energy. Similarities can be seen in the figure for their gas emissions, water heating accounted for 32% of Australian households' gas emissions while cooling discarded just 3% of gas emissions.
