the graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport
The given statistical line chart illustrates how much goods being distributed in the UK by four distinct transportation systems in four-year intervals, starting from 1974.
Overall, road and water transportations seemed to be the most popular modes for delivering goods throughout the period as they showed an upward trend. It is worth mentioning that rail and pipeline transportations were less preferrable.
A quick glance at the two first transport systems reveals that the number of commodities transported in the UK had its starting point at around 70 million tones. Then, this figure showed a rapid growth to approximately 100 million tones at the end of the period. Additionally, the amount of goods shipped by water transportation began at 40 million tones. Subsequently, it witnessed a sudden increase to over 50 million tones in 1982 before falling gradually to 50 million tones in 1998.
Turning to the other sets of data, the quantities of goods transported by rail transportation started at 40 million tones. Then, it is recorded for this figure to experience a fluctuation throughout the years to reach just over 40 million tones in the end. Conversely, pipeline transportation was less popular to start at roughly 5 million tones. After that, a constant increase to over 20 million tones was reported in terms of goods delivery in 2002.
