The line graph illustrates various ways individuals bought music, streams, downloads and CDs in a seven-year term spanning from 2011 to 2018.

Overall, the ratio of sales of musical CDs as well as that of downloads fell during the tenure whilst streaming gained in popularity.

By 2011, CD purchases were pegged at a high of 55%, the most popular then, however fell marginally to 25% in 2018 to become the least popular. On the contrary, music streaming which was at a mere 5% in 2011 gained modestly over the years to stand at 40% in 2018, the fashionable way then. Acquisition of music by downloads in 2011 was second ranked at 35%, this gently accelerated to a peak of 45% in 2014 making them the choicest then, prior to a change in trajectory as the trend took a slight nose dive over the next four years to 30% by 2018 and back to second position in the ratings.
