Overall, as is observed, seniors in USA spent most of their free time watching TV or in the theatre. However, at the end of time, they had just increase slightly and even down. Also, surfing the Internet and hiking had pretty low starting points but until the end they all had bounced.
As can be seen, in 1980s, watching TV got the highest proportion, which made up 60%, after that it went up to 70% in 2000s. Until 2010s, it slipped back to more than three-fifths. Theater viewing also accounted for 50% in 1980 but it fell 20% in 1990s. By 2010s, it had risen again which took up under a half.
This is followed by surfing the Internet which activity accounted for less than 10% in 1980s and after 3 decades it shot up to 50%. Hiking and reading both had starting points of 20% and 30% respectively. Nevertheless, reading fluctuate widely and at the end double from the original level, which accounted for 60%, also hiking had a rapid increase, it skyrocketed to 80% and became the highest level of leisure activities for the older in America.
