The chart illustrates the percentage of the elderly who are 65 or over from 1940 to 2040 in three different countries.
Overall, it can be seen that the proportion of elderly people in three countries are increase. Inaddition, the figure for Japan was the lowest for most of the period.
In 1940, the percentage of residents aged 65 and over in American was the highest, in comparison with that of Japan at 9% and 5% respectively. Over the following 40 years, the figure for the USA increased significantly to 15% after it experienced a marginal decrease of 14% in 2020 before rising remarkably and ending at 23% in 2040 . Similarly, there was a dramatical rose to 15% in the percentage of sweden during the period of 60 years from 1940 to 2000. Conversely, the proportion of elderly people who are 65 or over in Japan witnessed a slight decline to 3% in 2000.
Moreover, that figure of sweden is expected to dramatically increase to 20% after it decreased by 2% in 2020 before ending the period at 25% in 2040. Similarly, the percentage of elderly people in Japan marginal rise to 10% in 2020. In addition, the proportion of the populations aged 65 and over increase dramatically to 27% and become the most popular of the chart in 2040.
