The chart illustrates the proportion of individuals born in and outside Australia deciding to shelter in three distinct areas in 1950 and 2010.
It is clear from the chart that during the research period, both Austrailia-born and foreign-born were prone to inhabit in metropolitan regions. In addition, there were declines witnessed in the figures for countryside areas in two categories.
About those born in Australia, in 1995, there were 50% of individuals residing in cities, whereas the figures for towns and rural regions accounted for 20% and 30% of the total in turn. Conversely, to 2010, the rate of city dwellers experienced gradual increase to 63%. At the same time, those of towns and unpopulated areas dropped to a comparable figure, to 18%.
In terms of foreign-born, in 1995, 60% of inhabitants settled down in cities, compared to 40% of them living in rural regions. Likewise, the percentage of towns was dwarfed by that of countryside, at 10%. In 2010, individuals tended to head to the urban areas, at 80%, followed by an instability saw in the share of towns. By contrast, there was a five-fold growth in the figure for unpopulated regions to 8%.
