The chart gives information about different age groups of people in New Zealand from 2011 to 2012.
Overall, middle and young people occupied most of the whole population of New Zealand in the 2-year period. The percentage of the elderly increased most and the percentage of other age group changed marginally.
People aged 15-39 were nearly 1.58 million and the figure for 40-64 age group was around 1.33 million in 2011. There were just 0.9 million people under 15 in 2011. This was almost half of people who were 15-39 years old. People over 65 were the least with only about 0.57 million.
The population of New Zealand increased slightly by 0.6% in 2012. People under 15 and aged 15-39 increased but the percentage of them fell by 0.2% in 2012. In the contrast, the percentage of 40-64 age group rose by 0.6% and the elderly occupied 4% more of the whole population in New Zealand in 2012, which was 20 times more than the rate of the young and middle age group.
