The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line chart provides data demonstrating the proportion of people in four Asian nations who are residing in cities between a span of a seventy-year period. Overall, it can be seen that the figures from each country witnessed an upward trend through experiencing some fluctuations.
Malaysia and Indonesia were the two countries whose increase were the most significant. Despite starting as the country with the lowest in 2010 of residents in the cities, Indonesia climbed to second place in 2010 and stayed there since. Likewise, Malaysia, which started off at second, soared fiercely and remained in dominant position since 2000. Both countries' numbers were up by around 40% between 1970 and 2020, and the projections show that there would be another 10% increase in the 20 years to come.
The figures for Thailand and Philippines, despite not as rapid as the two aforementioned countries, were also on the rise. The percentage for Thailand grew by 12% from 1920 to 1990, but plateaued in the 30 years after. Figures for Philippines also increased sharply in the first 20 years recorded, but become the only country that saw a decline between 1990 and 2010. In spite of the fluctuations, predictions on the trend from 2020 to 204 are optimistic about further increase.
