The bar chart illustrates the expenditure proportions of five categories in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Japan in 2009.
Overall, in 2009, four countries spent mostly on housing and least on clothing and health care. It is also noticeable that the food and transportation expenditure shares had the opposite data in four regions.
In 2009, the United States’s expenditure on housing ranked first with nearly a quarter, 5% more than that of Canada. In terms of food, there was a huge gap between the expenses of the UK and Japan and that of the other countries. The US only spent under 15%, less than approximately half that of Japan. The opposite pattern can be seen in the category of transportation, where the United States and Canada’s percentage exceeded that of Japan (10%) nearly by half.
Regarding healthcare, the United States regained its first place despite being less than 10%. However, the expenditure of the US on clothing remained at last place with a slight gap less than that of Canada (over 5%).
