Overall, there was an increase in the percentages of adult fiction and children's fiction sold, while the opposite was true for the figures for biography, travel and others. In addition, adult fiction was the most popular book, with the figures reaching the highest in sales in the year 1992 and 2012
The share of adult fiction sold started at 20% in 1972, after which it saw a significant rise to 45% in the last year. Similar changes can be seen in the figure for children's fiction, which grew from 20% in 1972 to 25% in 2012. Conversely, 20% of customers bought biographies in 1972, with a subsequent decrease to 15% after 20 years, before ending at 8% in 2012.
In terms of other categories, the percentage of travel sold was 15%, followed by a slight growth to 18% in 1992 and a final decline to 10% in 2002. Similarly, the figure for other genres fell significantly from 25% in 1972 to 12% in the final year.
