Essay topics:

In many countries around the word, rural people are moving to cities, so the population in the countryside is decreasing.
Do you think it is positive and negative development?

Recently, is has been increasingly equivalent for rural citizens in many nations to migrate to urban areas. From my perspective, I suppose that this practice will have detrimental effects in terms of the environment and employment related issues.
To begin with, one of the most prominent problems caused by city overpopulation is environmental degradation. In other words, the more individuals move to urban areas, the higher industrial production and construction activities are. As a consequence, there exists overconsumption of resources, and an enormous amount of garbage, sewage, exhausted fumes, and carbon footprint will be discharged into the surroundings. Moreover, this can lead to long-term implications such as the outbreak of infectious and fatal diseases. New Delhi, capital of India, is a justification. This city presents a huge environmental crisis due to high levels of environmental deterioration caused by its rapid growth of personal vehicles and industrial and commercial operations. In fact, New Delhi is often ranked among the most polluted cities in the world, with dangerous consequences for public health, including respiratory illnesses and reduced life expectancy.
Another contributing factor is the deficiency of employment opportunities. High influx of rural workers appears to be equal to unnecessarily abundant labor force, which put pressure on urban jobs markets. If people cannot find formal and suitable professions, they tend to take on low-paid and unstable occupations, even they might accept jobs which do not offer job security or social protection, especially the low-skilled and blue-collar workers. This not only contributes to urban poverty but also widening economic inequality, undermining the promise of a better life that initially attracted people to the city.
Undeniably, rural-to-urban migrations can provide better living standards for many individuals regarding healthcare, education, and infrastructure. However, it cannot be guaranteed for a mass population. As a matter of fact, many rural migrants now have to face overcrowded houses, long waiting time for public services, and poor working and living conditions; as a result, their living standards actually are declined, not improved.
In conclusion, the imbalance in demographic change may negatively affect one nation on account of environmental and employment related issues. Therefore, it seems to me that governments should take measures to distributes equal attention and resources for both countryside and metropolitan areas to ensure a balance in population of both areas.
