These days there is an ongoing debate among people about zoos and if it should be viewed as a positive or negative impact on the animals. While it is possible to claim that animals in zoos do not have freedom and they suffer psychologically, my view is that advantages outweigh the disadvantages of the zoo. Both sides of the arguments will be discussed and my view presented in this essay.
Apparently, there are various advantages of keeping animals in the zoo. One of them is that animals get proper diet and medical aid while they are looked after by the skilled workers. It cannot be argued on how zoo provides a safe environment for endangered species. It should also be taken into account that people get to learn about different species of animal in a zoo visit. Additionally, in the era of urbanization, animals in their natural habitat are suffering while those kept in zoos are properly looked after.
Those who argue against the concept of the zoo have a different view and say it can harm animals. Firstly, it is claimed that the animal right is compromised while keeping them in an enclosed area. Then, there are concerns about psychological stress they go through when they see humans around.
While there are strong arguments on both sides of the cases, my opinion is that zoos do not hurt animals instead help them. I strongly recommend that zoos should not be banned exposing those animals to the unseen vulnerability of the world where everyday wildlife is getting impacted. More animals should be kept in a zoo and taken care of. The increment in the zoo area might be of tremendous help.
