The chart below shows the amount of money per week spent on fast foods in Britain. The graph shows the trends in consumption of fast foods.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.
The charts illustrate the grammes of three common types of fast food that were consumed in Britain in a period of 20, from 1970 to 1990 as well as the weekly expenditure spent per person for three different income groups measured in pence. Overall, it seems that despite the clear preference that the majority of people show in hamburgers, fish and chips consumption is similar to that of hamburgers and significantly higher than the one of pizza during the period.
Fish and chips, a food that costs people between 17 and 25 pence per week, started at just above 300 grammes and decreased steadily to reach a low of 200 in 1985 and finish the period at around 230. In contrast, the grammes of hamburger eaten increased rapidly during the period, especially after 1980, reaching a peak at well over 500 in 1990. More than 40 pence, which is over half the fast food expenditure of high-income rated people appears to be spent on hamburgers, opposed to slightly under 15 that is spent by the least wealthy category.
On the other hand, although pizza has also shown an upward trend, it appears to be the worst option for all the years between 1970 and the mids of 1985-2000, climbing over fish and chips approximately in 1988. This could be suspected by the small amount of money spent on it by the lower income groups, which is about 10 pence per week.
